Rosalind Reed Associates creates unique landscape environments for residential and commercial clients. Typical plans include a variety of constructed features such as fences, decks, outdoor dining rooms, paving and stone elements, water features, landscape lighting and irrigation. Plant material is selected to compliment the architecture and site requirements, and to provide seasonal and year-round interest to gardens. Roof decks, using both intensive and extensive planting systems, are a specialty.
An integral part of the design process includes preparation of budgets, selection of contractors, on-site supervision of the installation process and long term maintenance strategies. Green-best-practices are used when designing a landscape. Although Ms. Reed has never designed a high-maintenance garden, this service could be provided.
Miss Reed's work has been featured in Julie Moir Messervy and Sarah Susanka's book Outside the Not So Big House, as well as in Fine Gardening, WaterShapes, Chicago Home & Garden, Chicagoland Gardening, the Chicago Tribune, and Crain's Chicago Business. She has won three Gold Awards of Excellence from the Illinois Landscape Contractor's Association, three Silver Awards from APLD, and has served for three years as a judge for the Chicago Tribune's Glorious Gardens Contest. Her former rooftop garden has been featured on PBS `Victory Gardens' television show.
Roz is a popular speaker and has taught a ten-week course on Planting Design at the School of the Chicago Botanic Garden, and shorter courses at the Oak Park Conservatory. Professional development seminars on landscape lighting, roof deck design, and selling planting design have been taught at the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Aqua Show/Genesis 3, ProGreen Expo, the Perennial Plant Association, APLD’s 2008 annual conference, and many professional meetings.
Ms. Reed holds a BA from Muskingum College and has completed course work toward her Ph.D. in Urban Economics at New York University. In addition to horticultural credits from the University of Illinois, she has learned from the best, among them Jan Lennox Moyer, Alain Gavin, Mike Linn, the Illinois Arborist Association, Genesis3, and APLD annual conferences.
